The 5th Annual Taste of Westminster
is being hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Westminster.
The event will take place at the Westminster Sunken Gardens
next to City Hall on August 23; from 12pm to 4pm. Ticket
prices will be $25 per adult and $10 for kids 12 and under.
Your ticket is your key to lots of tasty samples from many of
our top restaurants in the local area. Visit any or all of
them as many times as you wish. For an additional charge, you
can visit our beer and wine tent, hosted by well known
breweries and some local wineries. Or you can buy soft drinks
from the Kiwanis Club.
It's All About The Kids
Last two years the Kiwanis Club was introduced to the
Challenger Little League. A branch of Little League of
America, the Challenger League allows children with
developmental disabilities the opportunity to enjoy playing
the greatest of American pastimes, the game of baseball.
Playing in the Challenger League allows these children to have
fun, get exercise, learn teamwork, and boost their confidence
and self-esteem. While the games aren’t normally competitive,
the “thrill of victory” that the kids get from the simple joy
of playing the games is a lot more than what comes from
winning or losing.
Smaller in numbers and stature than other youth leagues,
however, the Challenger League has been challenged to locate
facilities that are available for practice and games. Regular
baseball fields also lack the ammenities that allow wheel
chairs and walkers to be properly accommodated.
Because of this, Kiwanis has taken up the challenge of the
Challenger League. A ball field of their own, a “Field of
Dreams” if you will, would help immeasurably to allow these
children to reach for the stars and slug one out of the park.
Through the Taste of Westminster, the Kiwanis Club of Greater
Westminster is pledged to make this dream a reality and build
a field for the Challenger League in Westminster.
